It is Colorless or light yellow heavy body, dissoved in water, lower alcohol,and ether. It is widely used in chemical,medicine and dye fields. The aqueous solution is alkaline, a kind of strong reducer, and not so good thermal stability. It may decompose under a high temreture ( above 150°C)

Applicated technical infrmation: used as midbody in synthesis of furazolidone,  regulator in plant grow, stablizer for polyurethane and polyacrylonitrile, inhibitor uesd in preventing the corrosion of  oil well,and so on.
